Premium Organic Compost at

COMPOST ORDER FORM

Ingredients: Compost (horse manure, hay, fine wood shavings, and organic farm field green waste)

Production

Our premium organic compost is produced on site using our stable waste and occasional farm waste. Using an aerated static pile system, we maintain temperatures at or above 131 degrees for three days, killing harmful pathogens and weed seeds. Composted and cured for a minimum of 6 months, our compost is mature, stable, and has a nice earthy smell. It is ready to use right away unlike fresh (hot) manure. We screen and test each batch to ensure the safety and quality of our compost. We have even tested for persistent herbicides and glyphosate (that may have come from outside hay sources), and dewormers from horses; and have found none detected in our compost. As organic farmers, we want the best for our soil and crops, and understand the value of a quality compost.

Compost Application

BAGGED COMPOST
  • How Much Should I Apply? To determine the # of cubic yards needed: total square feet x desired depth in inches of compost x 0.0031= # cubic yards
  • Amending Soil- Work 2-3 inches of compost into the top 3-6 inches of soil in and around the planting hole and/or garden bed. This will improve the porosity of the soil, especially clay soil and help retain moisture in sandy soil.
  • Pots- Add 1” of compost to pots twice a year to replenish organic matter.
  • Growing Fruit and Vegetables- Spread 1-2 inches of compost on top of the garden bed in the fall. Till or mix it into the soil in the springtime. Add ½ inch of compost monthly as plants begin to grow quickly.
  • Lawn- For new lawns, add up to 3 inches of compost into the soil and till to a depth of 5-7 inches. For existing lawns, incorporate 1/2 inch of compost into the bald spots before reseeding. You can also top dress lawns with ¼ inch of finely screened compost. Rake the compost evenly throughout the grass area. Over time the compost will improve the soil and reduce the need for other products.
  • New and Existing Plants- When planting, work 1 inch of compost into the top 2 inches of soil in and around the plating hole. Apply 1 inch of compost as a mulch around new and existing plants in early spring or fall to improve the soil, prevent weeds, and retain moisture. You can also gently till compost into the soil once or twice a year. Do not place compost directly against the stem or trunk of a plant, which could cause rot or invite pests.
